Meet Amelia & Abigail Gabble!

Meet Amelia & Abigail Gabble!

On my journey to live a slower, simpler life, I often think of all of the animals that I dream to have on my homestead someday. I cannot tell you the amount of times that I have dreamt of having geese over the last few years. I think they are the most elegant creatures with a bigger than life personality. I love the way they frolic through their spaces demanding attention everywhere they go. In my eyes, they were a must have.

As I have been researching geese, I knew I needed to get Sebastopol geese because of how insanely beautiful they are. Their curly feathers make them seem like they are ready for a fancy cocktail party in the back 40. Because of the lack of birds available and the popularity for that breed, Sebastopol goslings are expensive! I bit the bullet last Spring and paid an insane amount of money for 2 goslings. However, the hatchery didn't have enough to go around so my money was refunded and it was just one more year without my pretty little geese. This Spring I scoured the Internet and Facebook for more Sebastopol's and couldn't find any that were close to my area. However, there was a gal who had the sweetest little Dewlap Toulouse geese available. Obviously I had no chill about these, I had to have them.

You guys, I didn't even tell my husband I was getting them. I just toodled off on a 4 hour round trip to pick up my new babies. I sent him a text on my way home and told him that I had something to show him. He immediately asked me what I did this time. It's like he knows me a little too well! He was very relieved when I showed up with two new birds because the whole week before I had talked about a mule that was up for auction at our local sale barn.

As I've been on this gosling hunting journey, I've always known what I've wanted to name my new babies. Growing up, my brother and sister and I would watch Disney's The Aristocats frequently. My brother's favorite line from the movie was when Toulouse and Belioz told Marie that she's not a lady, she's nothing but a sister! Fast forward to several years later, my sister named one of her male cats, Toulouse. So when I found my newest additions to the Hendrickson Homestead, I couldn't resist naming them after the original Amelia and Abigail Gabble from The Aristocats. Amelia and Abigail are the sweetest little goslings and I can't wait to show them off to you for years to come.

Here's a link to some of my favorite things for my new little goslings!
